Marking their first theatrical-release feature since 1995's It Takes Two, the Olsen twins bring their adventures back to the big screen with New York Minute. Billed as a sort of Ferris Bueller's Day Off for tweens, the plot involves the escapades of two enterprising Long Island girls, Roxy (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Jane (Ashley Olsen), as they decide to dupe their parents and spend a day on the island of Manhattan. It seems the high-minded Jane has a speech to give to a scholarship committee, while the punky Roxy wants to meet her favorite rock band. When Jane's planner gets swiped, however, the girls find themselves embroiled in a political scandal involving a high-powered senator (Andrea Martin), as their high school's truant officer (Eugene Levy) doggedly pursues them. ~ Michael Hastings, All Movie Guide

The three most glamorous and butt-kicking private detectives in the business are back and ready to take on bad guys in this sequel to the 2000 blockbuster screen adaptation of the once-popular television series. Dylan (Drew Barrymore), Natalie (Cameron Diaz), and Alex (Lucy Liu) are once again summoned to the office of their boss Charlie (voice of John Forsythe), where they're introduced to his new right-hand man Jimmy Bosley (Bernie Mac) and given their latest assignment. It seems a pair of rings have gone missing and need to be recovered, but this was no ordinary jewel heist -- the rings have been coded with special information that can be used to access a list of every person in the FBI's Witness Protection Program, and when a handful of protected informants are murdered, the Angels are brought in to help crack the case. As the women search for the culprits, they encounter Madison Lee (Demi Moore), one of Charlie's former agents who decided that the wrong side of the law pays better, and Seamus (Justin Theroux), who once dated Dylan and wants revenge for her decision to turn him over to the police. Luke Wilson and Matt LeBlanc return as (respectively) Natalie and Alex's love interests, as does Crispin Glover as the Thin Man; John Cleese, Robert Forster, and Eric Bogosian also appear in supporting roles. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Two girls have an unexpected (and unwelcome) reunion with several millions of people watching in this blend of comedy and adventure. Shane (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Lizzie (Ashley Olsen) are teenage twin sisters whose parents divorced when they were young, with each girl living with one of their parents. With time, Shane and Lizzie have developed strongly differing personalities -- Shane is a neo-hippie with bohemian leanings and a fascination with nature, while Lizzie is a high-strung and firmly regimented yuppie in training. Unknown to one another, both girls have applied to take part in a popular television reality series, "The Challenge," in which young people compete for college scholarships by taking part in a series of physical and psychological tests on a remote tropical island. Sensing a possible ratings boost, the show's producers choose both of the battling siblings to appear on the show, but after a few on-camera squabbles, Shane and Lizzie realize they'll have to cooperate if they want to win the contest. The Challenge was the last in a series of successful direct-to-video features starring the Olsen sisters before they made a much-publicized return to the big screen with New York Minute. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In this comic adventure story, Maddy (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Abby (Ashley Olsen) are twin sisters (sounds reasonable) who accidentally witness a felony and soon find they're being chased by hoodlums who want to make sure they keep quiet about what they've seen. Hoping to keep the girls under wraps so they can testify against the crooks, Maddy and Abby are placed into the FBI Witness Protection Program; however, the girls have a tragic inability to keep a secret, and before long the FBI decides the best approach is to simply ship the twins out of the country until they can testify. Maddy and Abby are sent to sunny Sydney, Australia, where they find sun, fun, and danger when the gangsters discover them down under. Our Lips Are Sealed was released direct-to-video on November 21, 2000. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Twin sisters discover trading places isn't quite as simple as they imagined in this comedy for the whole family. Emma Stanton (Ashley Olsen) and Samantha Stanton (Mary-Kate Olsen) are a pair of 12-year-old identical twins who look alike, but otherwise have little in common. Samantha -- or Sam, as most everyone calls her -- loves sports and isn't much on frilly stuff, while Emma is a junior fashion maven who doesn't have any use for her sister's tomboy interests. Their father (Eric Lutes) thinks he doesn't have a close enough relationship with Emma, so he decides to draft her onto the winning girls' soccer team he's coaching; their mother (Kathryn Greenwood) signs Sam up for a second-string team coached by someone who acts as if he could hardly be bothered to watch the game. Neither Sam nor Emma is happy with this situation, so they decide to swap places on the teams; at first, neither Mom or Dad are the wiser, but when the girls' wildly different levels of play become obvious, Emma discovers she has to act like Sam to keep her folks from catching on to their plan, and vice versa. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
